New Park Amenities and Trail Connections Revitalize Spring & Klein – 2026 Update

Residents of Spring and Klein are seeing their parks and trails transformed thanks to Harris County Precinct 3’s ambitious Master Parks and Trails Plan. The long‑term initiative, released in 2023, aims to expand trail connectivity and upgrade neighborhood parks as the population across north Houston is projected to double by 2045.

Officials say several projects were completed in 2025 with more enhancements rolling out through 2026. At Spring’s Kickerillo‑Mischer Preserve, workers installed a new playground and boardwalk and extended the south trail to connect to the YMCA trail. The improvements give families easier access to nature and create new gathering spaces along the lake.

Meyer Park received a new inclusive playground and pickleball courts, and half a mile of the Gourley Nature Trail was reconstructed. Pickleball is one of the fastest‑growing sports in the country, and the county is meeting demand by adding courts at Russ Poppe Family Park and I.T. May Park. Officials also added pollinator‑friendly flowers and erosion control to the butterfly garden at Dennis Johnston Park, remodeled the Judge Ted Poe Community Center and expanded parking at Kickerillo‑Mischer Preserve.

The master plan divides the region into service areas and estimates more than $758 million in projects, funded by county, state and partner contributions. Spring and Klein already boast 12 parks across a variety of sizes—from pocket parks to regional parks and greenways. With new playgrounds, boardwalks, trails and pickleball courts, the plan is ensuring residents have quality outdoor spaces for recreation and relaxation as the community grows.
